Gentamicin Sulfate Injection

I looked it up, here's the breakdown for dogs:

Specifications:
Each milliliter of sterile aqueous solution contains the equivalent of 50 milligrams of gentamicin.

Conditions of use:

Amount:
2 milligrams of gentamicin per pound of body weight, twice daily on the first day, then once daily. Administer intramuscularly or subcutaneously.

Indications:
For use in the treatment of urinary tract infections (cystitis) caused by Proteus mirabilis, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus.

Limitations:
If no improvement is seen after 3 days treatment should be discontinued and the diagnosis reevaluated. Treatment not to exceed 7 days. Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

Now for the stuff for horses is also a prescribtion by veternarian only and is used to prevent bacterial infections from the coli family while helping in improving conception in mares. It has a slight hormonal drug in it that will open the cervix for conception.

Want a tip? You can get Genta-Ject for Chickens and Turkey over the counter at your local livestock store. It is the same drug given to dogs and horses only in a different solution. Each milliliter of sterile aqueous solution contains the equivalent of 100 milligrams of gentamicin. So pull out your calculator and figure it out. But, at least it'll save you a trip to the vet.

Tylan Injections

Someone asked me about this drug. Figured I would post here as well to share with everyone else.

Tylan is often the Rx name for the Tylosin. The Rx for dogs is Tylan® Injection 200 mg; Tylan® Injection 50 mg which is pure Tylosin.
Here's the breakdown...
Amount:
3 to 5 milligrams intramuscularly per pound of body weight at 12- to 24-hour intervals.

Indications:
Treatment of upper respiratory infections such as bronchitis, tracheobronchitis, tracheitis laryngitis, tonsillitis, and pneumonia caused by Staphylococci species, hemolytic Streptococci species, and Pasteurella multocida. If the names above have lost you, let me know. Perhaps I can write an article on each disease to help inform you guys.

Limitations:
If there is no response to therapy in 5 days, diagnosis and treatment should be reassessed. Use a 50-milligram-per-milliliter solution only. Dogs receiving a dose of less than 50 milligrams (1 milliliter) should be dosed with a tuberculin syringe. Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

Here's a Tip You can buy the EXACT kind of drug used on dogs for cattle and swine. Though it will be in a different solution. Here's their breakdown..

Cattle: 8 milligrams intramuscularly per pound of body weight once daily.

Swine: 4 milligrams intramuscularly per pound of body weight twice daily.

So pull out your calculator and do some figuring.

The pill form that a vet may give you is Tylocine Sulfa Tablets 50 but there are no other animal substitute I can give you for it.

Please keep in mind that there are over 50 other combinations with Tylosin such as Tylosin® plus Hygromix, Tylosin® Antibiotic Premix, Tylan® Sulfa-G, Tylan® 10 Sulfa-G; Tylan® 20 Sulfa-G; Tylan® 40 Sulfa-G; Tylan® 5 Sulfa-G, Tylan® 100 CAL Type A Medicated Article; Tylan® 40 CAL Type A Medicated Article, and many many more! These CAN NOT BE USED ON DOGS! Some are too strong and will take experience to be able to correctly "water" them down. Others have terrible side effects such of liver shut down with the drugs: Tylan® 10; Tylan® 20; Tylan® 40; Tylan® 5 and many others.

In medication you must remember that just because it has a partcial name of the product you are looking for doesn't neccessarly mean it is okay to use it.
Hope this was the anwsers you were looking for.
